ABSTRACT ARTWORK BY SERIES

ABSTRACT PAINTING

One form in the upper right, deep blue oval pouring off the right edge, in a mocha brown oval with one blue drip, underneath is a blue pour.
Vertical oriented, all light grey except for a white corner in the upper right, and a yellow/white/gray luminous slurry in the bottom right corner. Smooth surface
An upholsetered, small vertical painting with an ochre upper third and a thick white lower two thirds.
An upholstered vertical painting with layers of white, tan and black pours with a weight to the bottom of the painting in terms of composition
I have been making these soft, pillowy pours for about eighteen years. The process continues to delight and scare me, which is why I keep making them.
These paintings are upholstered, like one might upholster a chair. The base is wood, with batting, found cotton fabrics, and acrylic poured as the final layer. On a rare occasion, the first pour produces a perfect final work in one go. Usually, however, things go sideways and I’m faced with a complete unanticipated mess with little control over the result. That’s both the scary part, and the part that delights me.

I avoid visible hand marks, so the material can speak directly for itself. Gravity, chemical reaction, and factors like humidity and temperature have a big influence on the final texture and composition of each painting.

PEG DRAWINGS

A one part peg drawing, white paint dipped fond patterned bag, blue and green, bottom of the bag crumpled and torn and then dipped.
A two part peg drawing with white plaster dipped cardboard and a wider pink piece hanging from two half inch pegs with a single backing piece.
A four part, two hole blue red and rust and white colored dip. Back piece is orange with a patch.
These artworks are paper-based wall sculptures with one to five components of found, altered and arranged objects hanging from wooden pegs. The project began in 2021 and continues. Each piece is completely one-of-a-kind. Each work comes with simple instructions for caring for your Peg Drawing. Free shipping. To purchase, contact me and let me know which piece you want. ABSTRACT WORKS ON PAPER

Horizontally oriented, a peachy color, a swirling pile of pink rounded marks with a ribbony feel and yellow edges, rising from the bottom left to the upper right, with six graphite marks that create rolled forms, a little like a ribbon candy. Three tab spaces from the cream colored found paper on the bottom.
A vertical oriented work on paper, on white bristol board. Seven petal like yellow marks are articulated with graphite edges that make them appear as if they are a looksely stacked, falling cascade of tongue-like pedals. Six graphite forms lend a lovely definition.
A horizontal light aqua blue form with three slightly banana-shaped forms, and an area of almost drip concentration at the lowest point in the blue (middle) and up toward the top left edge. On cream colored card stock.
These works range from sweet works of 4 x 6" on found paper to 24" in the longest dimension. They are sold unframed for safer shipping. Each piece is one of a kind and several have been featured in the annual calendar, and make lovely pairs and triads. Free shipping. To purchase, contact me and let me know which piece you want. You can also make purchases through my shop.

ABSTRACT LANDSCAPE

Landscapes range in size and substrate, from intimate works on card stock at 4 x6" to 30" paintings on wood at the longest dimension. They are made with acrylic, oil, acrylic gouache and graphite. The works on paper are sold unframed. The paintings do not need frames. These works pair in lovely ways with the pure abstraction and are available as soon as they are made and shared. Free shipping. To purchase, contact me and let me know which piece you want. You can also make purchases through my shop.

LOSS SERIES

This  is a  series about powerlessness and loss, and the specificity and intimacy of our personal thoughts and ideas. This project is an attempt to capture traces of my grandmother's mind,  her quality of attention, and how it faded pronouncedly in the last years of her life.
