Works on Paper: Loss Series 2018
LOSS Series - Statement
This series of paper pours is made from papers of my grandmother, Betty Emerson, who passed away from Dementia in 2005. The papers are from her notes on the topic of memory loss, attempts to remember names and relationships to those closest to her, and how thought and intuition function. Acrylic paint is thick, coating, covering and obscuring the information she so desperately sought to retain in her later years.
This is a series about powerlessness and loss, and the specificity and intimacy of our personal thoughts and ideas. This project is an attempt to capture traces of my grandmother mind, her quality of attention, and how it faded pronouncedly in the last years of her life. |
