Project Description: Sculpture:
I built an open, rubberized structure in the volume equivalent of everything I own. This includes my car, q-tips, winter boots, cooking spice jars, tools and well, all of it, inventoried in full from May - July of 2009. It includes everything in my art studio, in storage, and in use today. The structure stands empty and open at both ends; on its floor is a fourteen foot long by five inch list of everything I own, placed in a pathway of honeysuckle branches. The structure was installed for five days. The second element of this project was a fireside ceremony on the beach in which I read the entire inventory list. The intention of of this project was to invite a public reflection on the fact of 'stuff' in every human life using my personal and specific example, to be witnessed by the island as it's witnessed many human endeavors passing through, and then to see what, if anything, feels different. |
