       Project Description:
If we're in the same place at the same time, are we having the same experience?

SpotCount poses this question as a series of site-specific events occurring over two years: nine events occurring roughly every three months. For each event, a group assembles in a specific location: a library, lot, cafe, at a meal or an opening, for example. The group is offered instructions and markers designed for the particular site. The markers may be wooden blocks, found items, sculptural forms, each chosen or created to work for the specific circumstances and timeframe. The group changes, ideally representing a diverse range of cultural and perceptual perspectives.

Instructions are very straightforward, inspired by observational methods of naturalism, meditation, and social science. The projects are a combination of an event, installation, observational lists, photographic and filmic documents, and artifacts. The intention of the series format is to develop greater clarity and understanding of what I'm doing and the nature of a time, place and our presence as part of them.
